VSA Newport Summer School

The Victorian Society in America is the only national non-profit organization committed to historic preservation, protection, understanding, education, and enjoyment of our nineteenth century heritage. It hosts summer schools in Newport, Chicago and London each year.

Newport, Rhode Island was founded in 1639. It’s since grown into one of the most architecturally diverse and significant towns in the United States. The Newport Summer School is led by one of America’s most celebrated architectural historians: Dr. Richard Guy Wilson.

Ryan attended the Newport Summer School so we hosted a discussion to help people who might be interested understand more about Newport and the opportunities the VSA’s Newport Summer School offers. It’s unique!

The video below is a recording of our discussion. If you wish to watch the video, you might like to use the button in the lower right-hand corner to expand the size of the video to your full screen. It’s the button with the four arrows pointing to its four corners.

The summer schools are competitive - you need to apply to be accepted. Applications are due by March 1st so it’s best to make an early start getting your paperwork together. Ryan’s experience was the VSA staff responded to questions quickly and provided helpful information.

There is a fee for attending the summer schools. Partial or full scholarships are available. The scholarships require a bit of additional paperwork so give yourself more time to prepare those applications before the deadline if you wish to request assistance.

Use the button below to visit the VSA’s page for its summer schools. You’ll be able to find details, dates and other information about each of the schools.

We host events throughout the year. Some are informal discussions like the recording above and some are more detailed - intended to help you enjoy a more healthy, comfortable and efficient home.

We’d be delighted if you’d join our learning community so we can share these gatherings with you. We’d like to know what you think about the topics we’re discussing. If you’re interested, please complete the form below and we’ll be in touch.
