Goodbye to Bill Harrison

Bill Harrison has passed away. It was shocking to see a remembrance of him… primarily because Bill’s the sort of person you hope will be part of the community well into old age. Bill was just 72 years old.

Bill Harrison, Founder & President of Harrison Design

I knew Bill through his published work, media coverage and discussions with him at professional/civic association meetings. I can second the assessment of Bill as a “local treasure” by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine.

He was always kind to me and willing to patiently share his guidance as I peppered him with questions. He had a great deal of experience and insight to share from his work as a contractor and his great success building the architecture firm he founded, Harrison Design.

Harrison Design is well known with offices throughout the United States and an office in Shanghai. The firm’s work is showcased through publications and many awards. It’s a wonderful legacy for Bill and his family… as is the fine team of people at Harrison Design who earned the recognition.

In addition to Bill’s work as an architect, Bill was celebrated as a leader. The Atlanta Business Chronicle honored Bill as 2017 Most Admired CEO and published an interview with him.

It would be hard to enumerate the connections and describe the impact Bill made in our community through his work and civic engagement. For example, his attention to and celebration of classical architecture helped inspired the career paths of many designers.

A memorial service for Bill will be held tomorrow, May 14th. The notice explains, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to support the newly formed The Bill Harrison Foundation to support the education of the arts. That’s such a fitting mission for a foundation celebrating and continuing Bill’s legacy.

Goodbye to Bill Harrison. He will be missed.

Ryan
